How many of you belong to this group?

Don’t worry, nobody can judge you. 🙂 There are so many old wives tales and superstitions passed down by the older generation.

Here are some which I can contribute to your list:

Baby potty basin and a basin for baby to shower
In Singapore, these two items are part of the Guo Da Li before the actual wedding day. They symbolise blessings for the newly wed couple to conceive soon  after wedding (早生贵子).

Praying to Zhu Sheng Niang Niang (注生娘娘)
A Taoist deity that is believed to protect pregnancy, delivery and the health of newborns. Some couples feel they could do with some blessings from the deities after trying for a while with no result.Source: Ahjennyouandme.blogspot.sg

Items blessed by deity
For instance, red round lanterns which are blessed by a specific deity at a ritual andred lanterns

couple will hang these lanterns at their home entrance. Supposedly, to bless the couple with joy and good fortune (事事如意). *Check out my ang ang lanterns! 😉

Sitting on a pregnant woman’s chair
Yeap, you heard that correctly! My friend and I both did that. She got pregnant shortly! Well… not sure if it was just a coincidence.

Having confinement food cooked by someone who just gave birth
Do note that the whole dish must be cooked by that woman who just gave birth. You will have to consume the full portion given by the kind soul. My girl friend made me a local dish – Red Glutinous Wine Mee Sua. If you are new to this dish, you can check out this recipe I have found online here.

What are some of the fun (or funny!) things you have done or hearsay trying to conceive? 🙂

Fenni Choo
Crazy yet rational. Determined yet a procrastinator. Yeap, that's me. Here at WonderMa Singapore, you'll find a recollection of my thoughts, opinions based on my journey as a woman feeling pressured to 'have it all' by my own emotional paralysis. Thank goodness I am blessed with a supportive husband, and a docile dog, Sundae. Hear me share the craziest, funniest and emotional stories and thoughts from my friends and I. As the saying goes ☛ It is hard to be a woman - "<i>You must think like a man, Act like a lady, Look like a young girl, And work like a horse.</i>" What say you? 😅
